Allen Bestwick, who has had a long history of calling NASCAR races, will finally return to the play by play booth for the Sprint Cup Series on ESPN. Allen Bestwick, who has had the support of many fans that wanted him back in the booth, will replace Marty Reid, who covered the Sprint Cup Series for ESPN last season. Reid will continue as a play by play announcer for the Indycar Series as well as the NASCAR Nationwide Series events.
Allen Bestwick will work with Andy Petree and Dale Jarrett, who both remain analysts in the booth.
As for NASCAR Countdown, ESPN's pre-race show, Nicole Briscoe will be in the hosting role, as Bestwick used to host the countdown show. Rusty Wallace and Brad Daughtery will continue their roles in the ESPN Pit Studio.
"We are blessed with a talented and versatile group of NASCAR commentators," said Norby Williamson, ESPN executive vice president of production. "We believe this arrangement best plays to our individual and collective strengths.”
ESPN picks up the rest of the NASCAR season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 31st.
