By Official Release:
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- For the fourth consecutive year, fans can vote online for the 2011 Most Popular Driver in the Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series (Twitter hashtags: #NNSMPD, #NCWTSMPD).
Voting begins July 7 and runs through Nov. 17, prior to the season-ending race for both national series at Homestead-Miami Speedway during Ford Championship Weekend.
This year, fans have dedicated sites on NASCAR.COM to vote. For the Nationwide Series, fans can go to www.NASCAR.com/nnsmpd and to www.NASSCAR.com/ncwtsmpd for the Camping World Truck Series. Fans may vote once per day leading up to the Nov. 17 deadline.
To be eligible to receive votes, drivers must have selected either the Nationwide Series or Camping World Truck Series to receive 2011 driver championship points. Additionally, drivers must have attempted at least half of each series' races this season.
The winners will be announced at the 2011 Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series Awards Banquet. The combined post-season gala will again take place in South Florida at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel on Monday, Nov. 21.
With eligibility tied to their selected series for points, a new Most Popular Driver will be crowned in both series this year. Brad Keselowski, the 2010 Nationwide Series champion, earned a record-setting third consecutive series Most Popular Driver award via fan vote following last season. Kenny Wallace also has three Most Popular Driver awards in the Nationwide Series, though not consecutively. Narain Karthikeyan captured the most votes in the Camping World Truck Series to earn that series' Most Popular Driver honor in 2010.

Kimi Raikkonen To Kyle Busch Motorsports
After much speculation, it is official that Formula One Champion Kimi Raikkonen will be coming to NASCAR. It was announced that he will run a limited schedule for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Camping World Truck Series.
Team owner Kyle Busch is honored to bring the champion to his team.
"Adding one of the most talented drivers in the world is a continuation of building a team of proven winners and champions at KBM," Busch said. "I look forward to assisting in Kimi's transition to NASCAR as both an owner and teammate."
Raikkonen is also looking forward to working with Kyle Busch.
"Kyle is one of the best in NASCAR, and being able to draw on his knowledge will be a valuable asset as I make my transition to a new form of racing," Raikkonen said in a statement. "He has put together an experienced team that builds fast race trucks. I look forward to being a part of a team that has proven to be a winner on and off the race track."
Although there are no concrete plans for any Nationwide or Sprint Cup series races in the near future, it appears Raikkonen is committed to starting slow and working his way up the ladder.

Racebuddy for the Truck Series is doing wonders for everyone
At the beginning of 2011, NASCAR.com and SPEED Channel announced an agreement to make a Racebuddy application available, free of cost, to fans for the entire Camping World Truck Series season. The announcement was a huge step for NASCAR in online applications as there used to be very little available.
The Racebuddy feature is a four camera angle live video, with no commentators or commercials. It has two in car cameras, a battle camera, and a pit road camera angle. This combination allows fans to use the application as an extra tool to watch the race. So far in the 2012 season, it has been perfect.
With great television coverage this season, Racebuddy has been a major success. Action on the track is never missed, which allows a lot more forgiveness for fans when watching the telecast.
Contrary to what major NASCAR TV partners, like FOX and ESPN, believe, the application does not draw fans away from the race on TV, lowering the ratings. It is not an actual stream of the race, meaning fans cannot watch the same thing in multiple places. The telecast is still needed to get an understanding of the race, but Racebuddy is able to allow the fan to get even closer to the action. Remember, there are 36 to 43 cars or trucks on the track - the TV cannot show all of them. It is a perfect match for all.
As of now, there are no plans to run the Racebuddy application for the Nationwide or Sprint Cup Series (except for the TNT races in the summer). However, Racebuddy for the Truck Series was a huge step in the direction. Hopefully, it won't be long until the next big step.

Ineligible points scoring drivers winning in Nationwide and Truck nothing to be worried about

Kasey Kahne took the number 18 Kyle Busch Motorsports truck into victory lane at Darlington during the Sprint Cup and Nationwide series off weekend. This marks yet another ineligible championship contender winning in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the Nationwide Series this season. In fact, there have been no eligible winners so far after three races in each series.
This has many fans concerned about NASCAR's new rule for 2011 - a driver can only score points in one series. Many say this rule is making problems for the two series. However, there is not much to be concerned about - it is still very similar to any other year in the past.
All the drivers that have won in the Camping World Truck Series or Nationwide Series so far in the 2011 season are not scheduled to run the full season in that respective series (and did not run the full season in that series last year as well). This means that it doesn't matter whether or not they can score points. So this new rule has not done anything to hurt the series.
People's concerns are definitely revolving around the championship winner not winning a single race in the season. While this is a good possibility, it is important to remember there are many good teams out there and that number seems to be growing, so it may not be as bad as many think.
Let's face it - NASCAR can't just ban Sprint Cup drivers. They, first of all, sell tickets and sponsors, but also improve television ratings and fill up the entry lists. They are needed - at least right now - in the two series. Getting rid of them would just be a bad move to say the least.
So if you're one of those people who are thinking NASCAR needs to make a change - there's not much they can do. The situation may not be pretty all the time, but it's far better than what it has been these past few years.

Waltrip Wins Daytona Truck Race, But With Controversy
As SBNation.com editor Jeff Gluck stated, a common theme for Michael Waltrip when winning races is that something derails the victory.
Ten years ago, February 18th, 2001, Michael Waltrip won the biggest race in NASCAR, the Daytona 500, breaking an enormous winless streak driving for his friend, Dale Earnhardt. In just a matter of minutes, it went from being the best day of his life, to the worst. The world had lost Dale Earnhardt.
Ten years later, to the exact day, Michael Waltrip got behind the wheel of a Camping World Truck Series vehicle, driving the number 15, the same number that Michael Waltrip won in on NASCAR's darkest day. He then took a similar approach to the race in 2001, where he would slowly increase his position throughout the event, until the final few laps, where he would take the win in a last lap pass. He would even have his brother, Darrell Waltrip in the booth calling the race, and cheering him to victory just like he had that day ten years ago. It all seemed well for Waltrip.
Just like Daytona in 2001, something would take that away from him. A spoiler.
After Waltrip crossed the finish line to take the win, the SPEED Channel commentators noticed that the spoiler on the number 15 truck had come down. The exact time the spoiler came down has not been officially determined. While only half of it had come down, it is still to be considered to have given Michael Waltrip an advantage in the final lap.
NASCAR made the right call with allowing Michael Waltrip the win. Yes, the spoiler obviously wouldn't pass post race inspection, but it had to have had to pass pre race inspection. It isn't like there was a button that dropped the spoiler at the end of the race. Michael Waltrip's wins was ruined when Dale Eanrhardt died, he deserves to win on the ten year anniversary of his boss' death.
I believe there will be a penalty, which is deserved, but the win needs to stand.
It's just too good of a story to ruin.

Ron Hornaday Jr and Austin Dillon Spotlighted by NASCAR Media
Ron Hornaday Jr. and Austin Dillon topped the voting by members of the media in this year’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series pre-season poll.
Hornaday took home a record fourth series championship in 2009 and is picked to join Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt as NASCAR national series competitors with five titles.
Hornaday made history in 2009 as NASCAR’s oldest national champion at age 51. He would become the first driver in the 16 years of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series to win back-to-back championships.
“I’m very honored they (the media) chose me to repeat as champion but there (will be) 35 other trucks out there for us to compete against,” said Hornaday, a 45-time winner in the series.
Austin Dillon was tapped to become the series’ second-youngest Raybestos Rookie of the Year, at age 19. Dillon, a North Carolina college student, will drive the historic No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet for his grandfather, Richard Childress. The team, with Skinner behind the wheel, won the series’ first championship in 1995, and returns to full-time NASCAR Camping World Truck competition after a decade-long absence.
Runner-up in the rookie balloting was 2009 Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) champion Justin Lofton, followed by Jennifer Jo Cobb and Dillon Oliver.
